World
Team 2011: Skydivers who wish to participate on World
Team 2011 are encouraged to stay active on the big-way circuit and
strengthen their big-way credentials during the 2009-2010 season.
If talented skydivers wish to join World Team, but do not have the
required credentials, there is ample time and opportunity to earn
these credentials and secure a slot on World Team.
World Team 2010:
As a vital step toward its ultimate goal, World Team will conduct
a 2-point sequential event with 252 skydivers in January 2010. This
attempt to set a Guinness Book World Record will take place in Udon
Thani, Thailand, and serve as a full dress rehearsal for the 2011
record attempt. Due to numbers alone, only half of the WT '11 skydivers
will be able to participate in the 2010 sequential event. If a qualified
skydiver does not receive an invitation for 2010, this is not a
reflection of their skills, nor an indication about their possible
participation in 2011.
Joining
World Team:
Confirming team member participation
for World Team events is a four-stage process. Prospective team
members must first Apply; second,
be Selected as a member of World
Team; third, be Assigned to
a specific sector; and fourth, Register
for the event. The following describes this process in detail.
Selection
Team: The Application
and Selection stages are conducted by World Team's Selection Team.
Once again, Kate Cooper-Jensen is Director of the Selection Team
and is again joined by fellow Selection Team-mates Larry Henderson
and Dan O'Brien. The Selection Team's primary responsibility is
to select the most qualified and capable skydivers to join World
Team. World Team Leaders also play a very active support role
by providing input to assist the Selection Team fulfill this goal.
Application
Process: The first stage
involves completing and submitting an on-line Application Form.
This process will provide the Selection Team with extensive information
about each applicant’s skydiving history, currency, big-way
experience, health and biometrics, etc. This process will also
provide a means for each applicant to identify big-way experts
who can provide additional reference data on their behalf.
Selection
Process: The
Selection Team embarks on its arduous task with a blank slate.
There are no guaranteed slots on World Team. Even the World Team
Leaders are subject to the scrutiny of the Selection Process.
The
Selection Team will thoroughly review the data from all applications,
review all input provided by big-way experts, and contribute their
personal knowledge of an applicant’s skydiving capabilities.
Each skydiver who applies for World Team will be evaluated and
ranked according to the same criteria and be afforded the same
considerations. Those skydivers who are ranked as the most capable
for a specific event will receive an invitation to join World
Team.
Sector
Assignments: As team members are selected for World
Team, Dive Director (BJ Worth) will collaborate with the Sector
Captains to assign them to the most practical sector for each
specific event. After the Dive Director informs team members about
their sector assignment, the Sector Captains will provide all
further World Team information for team members prior to starting
that World Team event.
Registration
Process: Team members
will be directed to the World Team website to submit an on-line
Registration form. This form will request information on all relevant
travel-related documents, flights, passports, accompanying personnel,
hotel and roommate preferences, apparel sizes, etc.
